Setting out to fight hunger
PORCH Raleigh seeks to provide nourishment and resources for food insecure families in Wake County through monthly neighborhood food drives. We collect non-perishable food donations from the porches of Raleigh residents, distributing them to multiple hunger relief programs including BackPack Buddies, school food pantries, and community pantries.
North East Wake Backpack Buddies
North East Wake Backpack Buddies (NEWBPB) provides food to hungry children in our region and enriches their lives by giving them a greater opportunity for growth, learning, and development. Our goal is to provide healthy, balanced meals to children in our community who may go hungry over the weekend. Students we serve, who normally receive a free or reduced breakfast and lunch at school, no longer have to worry about where their weekend meals will come from allowing them to focus on their education.
Alliance of AIDS Services – Carolina
The Alliance of AIDS Services – Carolina offers a variety of services focused specifically on meeting the needs of individuals living in our community with HIV. Providing counseling and nutritional services has proven to reduce the risk of HIV transmission and assists the individual in optimizing his or her healthy choices. The Alliance strives to provide compassionate, non-judgmental care always.
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle
The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle pioneers innovative, transformative solutions designed to end hunger in our community. As a member of Feeding America, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle distributes nearly 6 million pounds of food per year, 35% of which is fresh produce. From BackPack Buddies and School Pantries; Community Health Education and Mobile Markets; Catering and Culinary Job Training; and Urban Gardening and a 10-acre Farm; we go directly to the point of need to empower people. We feed, teach, and grow to create a healthy and hunger-free North Carolina.
