Setting Out to Fight Hunger

What We DoGet Involved

PORCH Communities is a national, all-volunteer, grassroots hunger relief organization.  We collect food and cash donations through monthly neighborhood food drives, and then distribute food to hundreds of at-risk families in our community.  There are individual PORCH Communities, like ours, all over the country.  It gives people the opportunity to make an immediate impact in their communities.

PORCH Chicagoland North is so excited to be a part of this incredible organization! Our chapter was started by founders Erin Molk, Fran Pine, and Terri Feldman and was in response to the growing rate of food insecurity due to the COVID 19 Pandemic since many of our friends and neighbors were looking to do something to make a difference in our community. Our first monthly food drive was October 2020 and we have grown every month!  We started with 35 people and we now have over 150 donors and 5 Neighborhood Coordinators.

We are happy to announce that this year, already over 8,000 pounds of non-perishable food was collected and delivered to Cool Ministries Food pantry in Waukegan. They feed 2,000 families per month and help more than 40,000 people annually.

In March 2021 we were able to add another local pantry, Moraine Township in Highland Park. They serve thousands of local families each year and we are so happy to be able to partner with them.

Thanks to our incredible donors, we have been able to help those who are struggling during these difficult times.

Their compassion and generosity is incredible!

About PORCH Communities

PORCH Communities fights food insecurity by creating sustainable hunger relief programs at the local level. Started in 2010 in Chapel Hill, NC, PORCH has grown into a repeatable model of monthly neighborhood food drives and fresh produce distribution supplying food pantries, schools, and community programs across the country. PORCH’s volunteer network, now in 550 neighborhoods across 10 states, has contributed more than $12 million dollars in hunger relief.
