How PORCH Works

PORCH is built around the very simple idea of a neighborhood food drive. Here’s how it works, in three easy steps:

The three-step process is easy, fast, and it’s also safe.

Donate Food

Set out non-perishable food on your porch to be collected by a volunteer.

Click here to find participating neighborhoods. Don’t see yours? Bring PORCH to your neighborhood!

Best nonperishable foods to donate:

  • proteins and stews
  • breakfast items like cereal and oatmeal
  • packaged noodle meals
  • canned fruit and vegetables
  • healthy snacks like protein and granola bars, apple sauce
  • shelve stable juice and milk

Avoid foods high in sodium and sugar. Look for fruit in 100% juice, not syrup. Get individual serving sizes that are easy for children to fix themselves.
