Mission & Vision
Our Vision
Each person in our Chapel Hill-Carrboro community will have access to sufficient nutritious food to meet their dietary needs for an active, productive, and healthy lifestyle.
Our Mission
The mission of PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro is to alleviate hunger and promote better nutrition in the community by:
- ensuring our local pantries are well-stocked with non-perishable food
- distributing fresh food directly into the hands of families with children in the public schools identified as food insecure
- creating pantries with healthy snacks in each of the 20 public schools and the community’s after-school programs
- creating more public awareness about the severity of hunger in the community, and the benefits of fresh food consumption
- recognizing we are a community of all incomes, faiths, ages, colors, sexual preferences, educational backgrounds, and ethnicities, and we treat everyone within our community with the same dignity and respect
- connecting our clients to supplemental food as well as a wide variety of other resources and services (i.e., job training, literacy, non-partisan voter registration)
- building collaborations with local businesses, municipal governments, foundations, public schools, University of North Carolina and other universities, and nonprofit organizations to maximize hunger relief impact and minimize duplication of services
- advocating to protect and strengthen government policy at the local, state, and national level to help people struggling with hunger; and
serving as a model of innovation for other communities seeking simple, effective ways to address local hunger
