How PORCH Works

PORCH is built around the very simple idea of a neighborhood food drive. Here’s how it works, in three easy steps:

  1. Once a month, on a designated day, residents place a food donation of individual sized-portions on their front porch.
  2. A volunteer neighborhood coordinator goes porch to porch and picks up the food donations.
  3. The donated food is transported by car to a central location where it is sorted, packed, and then delivered to our partners.

Become a Neighborhood Coordinator

One Monday per month collect donated food from your neighbors’ porches and bring it to the Child Food Hub. Donations serve various pantries and schools across Durham County. Pick up: During the collection week, coordinate food collection in your neighborhood, on your street or even your cul-de-sac. Whether you collect from 2, 20 or 200 houses – we need your help!

Delivery Drivers Needed

PORCH-Durham and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle are working to provide foods to children across Durham County, through Durham Public Schools, DPS Learning Centers, EAT NC, mobile markets, and community food distributions and pantries.

We have two delivery sign ups: every other Friday Backpack Buddies are delivered to various DPS elementary schools. Details and sign up here: Volunteer for Backpack Buddies Deliveries

Every third Wednesday of the month pantry stock is delivered to DPS middle and high schools, as well as Durham Tech. Click here for details and to sign up.
